Summer Loading: Another Production Season in Cape Town

Cape Town is warming up. So are we.
September always brings a shift. The days stretch a little longer, the light changes, and another Cape Town production season starts to take shape.
At Gavin Schneider Productions, that familiar energy is already building.
Briefs are landing. Ideas are being discussed. Location options are being pulled together. Productions are starting to take shape. And before long, teams from around the world will be arriving in Cape Town for the summer ahead.
Established in 1997, there’s still something incredibly exciting about this time of year.
Winter, behind the scenes
While winter brings a quieter production calendar, it gives us time to prepare for the season ahead.
Over the past few months, we’ve been updating our website with work from another incredible season, refreshing our location galleries and adding new spaces to our database as they come onto our radar.
It’s a chance to catch up, stay connected and make sure everything is ready for when the pace picks up again.
And now, it is.
From last season to the next
Last season saw us working across an incredible variety of productions, from global campaigns for HSBC and Virgin Atlantic to fashion and lifestyle shoots for Monsoon, NRBY and Mountain Warehouse, alongside many other exciting projects.
The briefs were varied, the locations even more so, and each production brought its own set of creative and logistical challenges.
It’s exactly that variety that keeps us excited about what we do.
Some projects brought familiar teams back to Cape Town, while others introduced us to clients, photographers, agencies and production partners we had never worked with before.
And that’s what a new season is all about.
New briefs. New teams. New ideas. And another summer of possibilities in Cape Town.
Why Cape Town?
Few production destinations offer this much variety in such close proximity.
Contemporary architecture and city streets. Beaches and dramatic coastlines. Mountains, vineyards and open landscapes. Character-filled homes, world-class villas, restaurants, rooftops and studios.
One brief can move through completely different worlds without leaving the Western Cape.
Alongside the locations is an exceptional local production industry, with experienced crews, casting, equipment, suppliers and creative talent accustomed to working alongside international teams.
There are the seasonal favourites we know will always deliver, alongside new spaces that give us something fresh to bring to upcoming briefs.
It means that when a brief lands on our desk, we’re not simply looking for a beautiful backdrop. We’re looking for the right production solution for the creative.
Why GSP?
Gavin Schneider Productions was established in Cape Town in 1997.
Nearly three decades later, that experience counts.
We know Cape Town and the wider South African production landscape. We understand the locations, crews, suppliers, casting and logistics, and we have a trusted network built over decades of producing here.
More importantly, we understand what international teams need from a local production partner.
From the first brief and initial costings through to casting, locations, permits, logistics and shoot days, our role is to make producing in South Africa as seamless as possible while protecting the creative ambition behind the project.
Every production is different. Every brief asks something new of us.
Knowing how to bring it all together comes from experience.
Looking ahead
September is turning towards summer, the weather is warming and the season ahead is already taking shape.
There are briefs on our desks, productions in the pipeline and teams preparing to make their way to Cape Town. But there is still plenty to come.
We don’t yet know where this season will take us, which teams we’ll meet for the first time or which briefs will have us looking at Cape Town through a completely new lens.
And that’s part of what makes a new season so exciting.
To the teams returning, we can’t wait to welcome you back.
Have Cape Town on your radar? Let’s chat.
Whether you have a brief ready to go or are considering Cape Town for an upcoming production, send it our way. We’d love to hear what you’re working on.
